Please help the zine mobile get back on the road!

Dear beloved community: After a few months of rest and regrouping, it’s time for the zine mobile to get back in action!  AND WE HUMBLY REQUEST YOUR SUPPORT TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN.

What we need more than anything is GAS IN THE TANK AND SOME ROUTINE MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE. If you you have $5, $10, $20, or even $50 or $100 to help support the work of this free traveling library and resource/reading room, please CLICK HERE TO DONATE! Donors of all levels will receive our heartfelt gratitude and a copy of Jenna Freedman’s zine chronicling the zine mobile’s inaugural journey!  If a financial contribution isn’t available to you (and even if it is), please consider spreading the word! We also love encouragements and general positive energy our way…

Where are we headed?  We’re hoping to make it to Chicago for an impromptu appearance at Zine Fest this weekend (if there’s parking!), and soon after we’ll be headed to San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico!

In search of a veggie-powered zine mobile!

After an incredible first year of zine mobiling, the trusty Astro van’s tires are bulging from the weight of so many zines, the $100 gas fill-ups constant reminders of the promise to be gas-powered just temporarily…

And so!!!  The time for a bigger, earth-friendlier zine mobile has come!  A zine mobile with more space for both materials and people…

Do you know of a STEP VAN, BREAD/DELIVERY/PARCEL TRUCK, SHUTTLE BUS, SHORT TOUR BUS, AMBULANCE/PARAMEDIC VEHICLE, etc. yearning for a new home and purpose in life?  What it looks like is less important than these necessities:

* DIESEL OR ALREADY RUNNING ON WASTE-VEGGIE OIL

* SOLID AND IN GOOD MECHANICAL CONDITION

* AT LEAST 18-FEET CARGO SPACE

* WHEELCHAIR LIFT OR AN EXIT THAT COULD BE BUILT INTO ONE

* UNDER $5,000

Ideally this magic mobile will be somewhere in California or not too far from… We’re already scanning online sites and classifieds, so no need to send us links… If you know of one you can speak about directly, please get in touch — zinemobile(at)wordpress(dot)com!!  Thank you!!

zine mobile summer adventures

A call for collaborators and a route to come!  In the meantime… the zine mobile will most likely be in these places late June to early August — excited in particular to find roads and places less-traveled — welcoming: smaller cities and towns, intentional communities and land projects, farms, animal sanctuaries, summer camps…

help keep the zine mobile moving!

Next week the zine mobile will shove off from the Midwest to Oakland/San Francisco, possibly stopping in Omaha, Denver, and Salt Lake City along the way… From the Bay we’ll head south, with stops in Los Angeles and San Diego… then east through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida… In March, up thru South and North Carolinas, aaanndd… a Spring Break tour is underway — possibly thru Canada!  Exciting!

Could you please help us get from here to there? As a free, traveling, self-contained entity, there are many ways to do so… right now what’s MOST needed is:

♥ MONEY FOR GAS!!!  If you have a few (or many) bucks to spare, pleeeease consider donating money or gas gift certificates to keep the zine mobile literally moving. We’re exploring options for transitioning from petrol to waste-veggie and solar power, but for now, for better or worse, it takes $80 to fill the tank!  Yes, $80!!

** Exciting update!  Anyone who donates will receive a copy of Zine Tour Zine, a first-person account of the Zine Mobile’s inaugural travels, created by Jenna Freedman, incredible zine-maker and librarian! **

♥ CONTACTS/ACCESS/ASSISTANCE in the places we’re headed… If you’re interested in helping organize a self-publishing/zine event, know of an awesome space to park/have open library hours, are interested in housing/feeding the library workers that travel in the zine mobile, please get in touch — zinemobile(at)gmail(dot)com. Cities, small towns, rural areas, intentional communities, land projects, small farms, animal sanctuaries — we’re open to anything, especially excited to participate in events that are free/donation-only, wheelchair accessible, and all-ages.

More ways to help will be posted soon. As ever, spreading the word and sending good vibes is equally important and appreciated!

Call for Zine Donations!

If your zine collection is sitting around collecting dust, think about sending it our way for people to read and use! If you’re a zinester or distro, we’d love to have two copies of your zine(s) — one for the the Fly Away Zine Mobile, and one for our sister project, the Zine Apothecary, a new garage-based zine library near Powderhorn Park in South Minneapolis. Both projects are volunteer-run, not-for-profit. Zines will either loaned out or kept as references/archives; they’ll never be sold.

Help us spread the excitement of self-publishing! And get exposure for your own creations, too!
